New Antenna for FM Station in San Julian, Bolivia

TWR operates eight FM stations in Bolivia and distributes programming over 120 stations throughout the country. In addition to airing 41 programs in Spanish, TWR reaches two unique populations in Bolivia: the native Quechua people group, whose language is Quechua, and the Mennonites, whose language is Plautdietsch (Low German). Programming in Quechua includes four programs and a daily two-hour live broadcast.

The Mennonites can hear three programs and one live broadcast. For the Quechua and Mennonites, TWR provides a vital lifeline of God's Word through radio. A Pioneer missionary team on a radio distribution trip in Bolivia shared that a rural man stepped out into the dirt road and stopped the missionary car. He had a little red radio in his hand and said, "It's a radio. Please take it. Fix it! It's my life!"

On October 30, 2022, a strong storm hit the town of San Julian and brought down TWR's 115-meter tower (377 feet). We praise God no one was hurt, and the San Julian transmitter and station were untouched. Our challenge now, however, involves replacing the antenna tower. San Julian is a strategic station that reaches large populations in Quechua and Mennonite communities. The men, women, children, and youth of San Julian are waiting to hear their programs again in Spanish, Quechua and Plautdietsch.

The San Julian population is about 50,000, but because of the height of this tower, an estimated 200 surrounding villages were also being reached. The TWR Bolivia team is eager to reach many more through these broadcasts, especially at a time when there is significant political unrest. There are demonstrations on the streets, and the country is almost paralyzed by disagreements between the people and the government. Restoration of this tower will keep bringing the hope and peace of Jesus Christ to the people of Bolivia.
