Ethan Munger Shares God’s Truth in Brazil
[Estimated reading time: 2 minutes]
Ethan Munger uses his linguistics skills serving alongside the staff at RTM (Radio Trans Mundial) Brasil in São Paulo.
Families who have followed God for generations display a wonderful testimony of faithful training and teaching children of the worthiness of God. Ethan Munger has one such testimony within TWR. His grandparents served with TWR for nearly half a century, and now Ethan is interning with TWR in São Paulo, Brazil.
Although Ethan speaks Spanish fluently, the main language in Brazil is Portuguese. Communication is exhausting sometimes, but Ethan’s up for the challenge. After all, he’s a graduating senior studying linguistics. Thanks to his classes at Moody Bible Institute, he’s applying much of his knowledge to the Brazilian culture and learning all he can.
What projects are you working on?
I am working with multiple different departments here at RTM Brasil. I have been cycling through working with the Production team recording videos, being on air on the radio, doing data entry and I’ll work in the stockroom where RTM Brasil keeps all their books and receives its mail.
What led you to joining TWR?
I heard about TWR from my grandparents from a very early age. My grandparents met in Monaco working at TWR. They served with TWR in at least five different countries over the course of 47 years before retiring recently. Through their stories of the mission field and God’s faithfulness across the world, I wanted to become a missionary when I was a kid.
What are you looking forward to while working at TWR?
Growing closer to the Lord, bettering my Portuguese and helping progress the gospel here in Brazil.
What is one of your biggest challenges this summer?
Cultural and linguistic differences here in Brazil and loneliness being so far away from my family and friends (over 4,000 miles).
How did you get interested in missions?
Through my grandparents’ testimonies and a Christian biography book series called Christian Heroes: Then and Now that told the stories of Christian missionaries over the past 400 years.
How is this internship preparing you for your future?
I’m hoping to work in the United States with different languages. Being here in Brazil will help me to speak Portuguese better and understand Brazilians better. I’m also getting valuable experience with data management, video recording and ministry.
Fun fact: Ethan grew up in Miami and is bilingual.
