A man prays facing a window in a mosque.
According to Joshua Project, there are over 3 billion people worldwide who are unreached by the gospel.

Christians who want to share Jesus with their Muslim cousins don’t need to be experts on the Islamic faith. But it’s helpful to have some knowledge of their beliefs. That can be as basic as knowing the Five Pillars of Islam:

Shahadah – profession of faith.

This is summarized in the statement: “There is no God but God and Muhammad is the Messenger of God.”

Salah – prayer.

Muslims face the holy city of Makkah (Mecca) and offer prayers daily at dawn, noon, midafternoon, sunset and evening. Congregational prayer is required on Fridays.

Zakat – giving alms.

Muslims are expected to pay a fixed proportion of their possessions for the welfare of the entire community. The amount is 2.5% of net worth, excluding obligations and family expenses.

Sawm – fasting during the holy month of Ramadan.

Partaking of food, beverages and other sensual pleasures is prohibited daily from sunrise to sunset.

Hajj – the pilgrimage to Makkah (Mecca).

The Hajj is a once-in-a-lifetime journey expected of all who are physically and financially able.
