Unmasking the Gospel in 2021: Rachael, Finance Intern

By Rosie McMahan
Americas, Global, Finance, N America
Rachael wants the world to experience the love of Jesus that brings her hope for now and eternity. She is inspired by John 3:16, which speaks of the promise of eternal life that God has brought about through his son, Jesus. When Rachael learned about TWR’s mission to make God’s love known to every corner of the earth, she knew it was something she wanted to be a part of. This summer, Rachael has undertaken her internship with the goals of growing in her love for Christ and following God’s call with a willing heart.

Rachael grew up in Kenya but came to the United States to attend Hillsdale College in Michigan. She is a rising senior, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Mathematics. Serving at TWR’s Cary, North Carolina, office, she has been the Finance intern this summer. Rachael loves playing volleyball, cooking, singing and, in her words, “any good thing!”

Q: How did you hear about TWR?

I heard about TWR during a career fair at my college.

Q: What caused you to get involved in the internship program with TWR?

I immediately fell in love with the motto of TWR: "Speaking Hope to the World."

Q: Have you always been interested in missions?

I have always desired for people to experience the love of Jesus because it brings hope in our lives now and in the future. From the words of Jesus in the gospel of John, "Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends," and John 3:16, that this love brings preservation for eternal life for those who believe.

Q: What projects are you going to be involved in?

Every day, TWR makes the love of Jesus known to the world, and I wanted to be part of that. In pursuit of that mission, this summer I have been working with the Finance team to prepare and review financial statements.

Q: Are there any challenges you have or anticipate experiencing? How will you face them?

Figuring out a way to learn so much in just two months while taking advantage of the Christian environment and hearing people’s stories and sharing life with them. I am trying to be open and intentional in whatever I am involved in. I’m also trying to remember details people share and situate myself in places that I can interact with people while learning.

Q: What are you most looking forward to during your internship?

I look forward to seeing how much I grow through this internship. I look forward to connecting with people and learning from shared experiences, I look forward to learning how Christians work together and utilize worldly resources to glorify God.

Q: What is your biggest goal for this summer?

I expect to grow in my love for Jesus through service and the ministering of the wonderful staff here at TWR.

Q: What are your post-college plans?

I am still working on my post-graduate plans, but in everything I want to glorify God.

Q: Fun fact: what’s your favorite food?

My favorite food I have eaten in America is the Thanksgiving meal.
