Unmasking the Gospel in 2021: Rosie, Journalism Intern
Rosie only had to travel a few miles from her home in Apex, North Carolina to get involved in TWR’s global ministry of hope. She hadn’t considered an internship or future in missions, but God used her interest in writing to draw her to TWR. She’s hoping this summer will serve as guidance for her as she considers a future in ministry and is excited to see how God will use her in this short-term endeavor for his kingdom.
A rising senior at UNC-Chapel Hill, Rosie is double majoring in Communications and Human Development & Family Studies. She served at the Cary office this summer as a Journalism Intern in the Marketing and Communications department.
Q: How did you hear about TWR?
My mom is in a prayer group with a TWR staff member. She was discussing how I was looking for an internship, and the staff member suggested I apply. I had never heard of TWR before but, as it turns out, I already knew several of the staff members from my local church.
Q: What caused you to get involved in the internship program with TWR?
After hearing about the program, I did some additional research and decided to apply. I’d also had some friends who had been involved that recommended it to me.
Q: Have you always been interested in missions?
I’ve grown up as a believer, but I’ve never considered missions as a career. Serving in the Cary office this summer has been a great way to get my feet wet while staying close to home.
Q: What projects are you going to be involved in?
Researching, writing, and editing various projects within the Marketing and Communications department. These included newsletters, articles, or Q&As with TWR staff members and other interns.
Q: Were there any challenges you had or anticipated experiencing? How did you face them?
I wasn't sure what type of challenges I would face this summer, and I think that was a challenge in and of itself. Not knowing what to expect can be a little daunting.
Q: What were you most looking forward to during your internship?
I was most looking forward to blending my love for writing with missions. I never thought that I would find an internship that would combine what I’ve been learning in college with sharing the gospel, so I was excited to see what that would look like in practice.
Q: What was your biggest goal for this summer?
My biggest goal for the summer was to assess if I see myself working in missions/ministry long-term.
Q: What are your post-college plans?
I’m not sure! I’m heavily considering pursuing a Master’s in Counseling after I complete my undergraduate degree. This summer will definitely be a big factor in my path, as I’ll be graduating in the spring of 2022.
Q: Fun fact: What’s your favorite food?
My favorite food of all time is watermelon. I’ve been known to eat a full-size watermelon in a day or two.
