Digital Marketers Make Great Missionaries
[Estimated reading time: 4 minutes]
Do you enjoy love scrolling through social media, connecting with people from here to Timbuktu? Maybe you catch yourself talking non-stop about the magic of search engine optimization. What if you could motivate all kinds of people to take action for Christ through your messaging?
As a matter of fact, you can.
Whether you have always dreamed of serving in missions or are simply wondering how you can utilize your digital expertise for God, TWR (also known as Trans World Radio) has a place for you.
The Opportunity
We at TWR are on a mission to reach the world for Christ by mass media so that lasting fruit is produced. With a potential reach of 4 billion people worldwide, TWR uses the best tools available to share lasting hope – whether by radio, social media or videos.
Advertising, marketing and social media skills are vital for our Mobilization team. Their aim is two-fold: educating God’s people about opportunities to serve and helping them catch the vision for their own place in missions. We are particularly looking for someone who can serve full-time at our U.S. office in Cary, North Carolina, though part-time or remote arrangements may also be considered.
Calling the body of Christ to action is crucial for TWR’s mission of reaching the world with the gospel. However, before believers can go around the globe to use their unique skills to proclaim Jesus, they must understand how their vocational skills are useful. Next, they need the encouragement to get involved. That’s where your expertise comes in.
Could This Opportunity Be for You?
You may never have considered that marketing could be used to advance The Great Commission. However, the call to go into the world and preach the gospel is for all believers, regardless of individual skills and talents. We need people knowledgeable in pay-per-click advertising, SEO, and social media as much as we need preachers.
This position will require an individual with excellent communication skills, especially for mass media, and a knack for data analysis. Being able to manage different ad campaigns – on Google, Instagram and X, for example – is key to success in this role.
Alan Lawton, director of Mobilization and Human Resources in our U.S. office, explains that managing ads and monitoring interactions with them is a major responsibility, since a large part of the job will be exercising good stewardship of our resources. After all, ads cost money. “We need to figure out how to maximize our impact with the resources that we have,” he explains.
As part of TWR’s team, working for personal gain will not be your main concern. Still, imagine the gratification that comes from knowing you were the catalyst in another person’s life which drove them into fulfilling God’s calling for them.
“There are hundreds of thousands of people sitting in church thinking they can never be a missionary,” Lawton says. “Your ad could change their mind and help them to see that God has a way for them to get involved in missions.”
TWR needs people who are excited to join a ministry with a global impact. Your work in advertising and marketing is integral to getting the gospel to people groups all over the world. As with all missionary roles, TWR’s missionaries build a team of partners who support them – both in prayer and finances – so that they can fulfill God’s calling to serve.
Now that you know how your marketing gifts can make a difference in the world of missions, will you answer the call?
