Graphic Design for God: Joanna Moser Joins TWR for the Summer
[Estimated reading time: 3 minutes]
Following in the footsteps of her new sister-in-law, Joanna joins TWR for an internship this summer, putting her creative skills towards the gospel.
“I became aware of multiple people using graphic design specifically in a ministry setting,” says 21-year-old Illinois native Joanna Moser.
Joanna is a rising senior at Illinois State University studying graphic design. This summer, she is serving with the Marketing and Communications department in Cary, North Carolina, as a graphic design intern. She’s been putting her skills to good use by creating an activity book to match TWR’s children’s books Share Your Glow and Max and Ellie’s Radio Wave Adventure.
During her first two years at community college, Joanna faced differing beliefs and ideologies. Surrounded by creatives and their self-glorifying art, Joanna remained dedicated to the Lord.
“While it was interesting to hear their different views,” Joanna says, “it was discouraging to realize that most of my fellow classmates had a hostile view of God and the Christian lifestyle.”
To combat her peers’ views, Joanna spoke with a missionary family friend in Ireland. During this time, Joanna discovered multiple people using graphic design in ministry.
“After hearing that, I started looking into opportunities to do internships in ministries that went along with my degree,” she explains. Ultimately, Joanna participated in an internship in Ireland, and this summer she landed at TWR.
God brought Joanna to TWR through her new sister-in-law, Kayla Moser, who works in TWR MOTION. Kayla told Joanna about how she served as an intern before joining TWR full time, and Kayla encouraged Joanna to consider an internship opportunity. Joanna knew she wanted to work in a corporate setting to gain more experience, so she was heartened when she discovered that TWR offered a graphic-design intern role.
Joanna is excited to get out of the classroom and put her skills to work for the Lord. While she hasn’t worked on a project for a younger audience before, she’s grateful for the opportunity to expand her portfolio. One of her biggest challenges will be navigating her new setting both at work and in North Carolina. Thankfully, she’s been getting to know many of the Cary office staff who are eager to help her out.
Kristina Dodds, Joanna’s roommate at the Cary Lodge, says, “If Joanna were a Disney character, I feel like she would be Joy from Inside Out, always practical, good at staying positive and even better at setting me straight.”
Fun fact: Joanna loves traveling everywhere! She’s been to Ireland, Vietnam, Japan, Mexico and Haiti.
