Hope for the Future: How TWR Reaches Children, Youth, and New Generations with the Gospel

By John Lundy

[Estimated reading time: 3 minutes]

Over the coming months, TWR explores how God is using our ministry to reach the next generation with the gospel. From children's outreach in Africa and Asia to animated evangelism with the Journey to Hope series and biblical literacy courses with Mission 66, the methods are new but the message of Christ remains the same.

A young girl from Sri Lanka looks at the camera, smiling, while sitting on the floor before two other children.

The timeless truth of Scripture was never intended for a single generation.

“You shall teach [these words] diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in their house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise,” Moses told the children of Israel (Deuteronomy 6:7).

That didn’t change in the New Testament.

“Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them,” Jesus said, “for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 19:14).

Jesus, our only hope for today, is also our only hope for the future. That’s why TWR honors its past while adapting to new technologies and new methods of communication.

TWR's Hope Within Reach

Welcome to the third quarter of Hope Within Reach, our ongoing series of stories, videos and social media content highlighting how God is using the ministry of TWR to share the hope found only in Jesus Christ to a lost and dying world.

We began the year with “Hope Under Fire,” exploring how the gospel is being proclaimed faithfully in places of conflict. During the past three months, the subject was “Hope for the Hidden.” We demonstrated how media can reach beyond geographic and cultural barriers and offer hope to those trapped in isolation – trafficked and sexually exploited women, the marginalized Roma people group and the people of Cuba.

How TWR Is Reaching the Next Generation

Our theme for the next quarter is “Hope for the Future.” We begin this month with TWR’s outreach to children and youth. We’re starting in Africa, where about 60% of the population is younger than 25. In August, we’ll enjoy an update from TWR MOTION. Find out how the 20-episode Journey to Hope animated series designed for sharing Jesus with Buddhist cultures is a prime example of “digital evangelism.” It’s a form of outreach that would have been foreign to our parents or grandparents but is vital for reaching new generations.

Then in September, we’ll turn to the subject of biblical literacy, because believers can’t be ready for the challenges of the future if we aren’t equipped to handle the Word of truth. Mission 66 was developed to meet that need. This radio Bible survey course created by Brazilian scholar Luiz Sayão is distributed in seven languages, with a goal of reaching those who speak the world’s 10 most-spoken languages.

The biblical writer in Hebrews 13:8 said, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” While methods may change, the message remains as relevant as ever. We invite you to see how TWR continues its mission of speaking the truth of Christ to the nations and to put his hope within reach for future generations
