Hope for the Hidden: TWR’s Mission to the Isolated and Oppressed

TWR is on mission to share the hope of Christ with those facing marginalization and oppression.
Joseph knew what it was to be hidden.
Thrown into a waterless pit by his own brothers, he had been sold as a slave to nomads who in turn sold him to an official in a foreign country (Genesis 37).
Now, having been falsely accused by his master’s wife, he was in an Egyptian prison (Genesis 39). Again, Joseph was hidden from view – and seemingly without hope.
Today, millions of men, women and children are isolated and alone, and hope seems far, far away. Yet hope is within reach.
Welcome to TWR’s continuing exploration of Hope Within Reach, as we see how God is using media to bring the hope of Jesus to people of every tribe, language, people and nation (Revelation 5:9) and in every sort of circumstance.
In January, February and March, we looked at Hope Under Fire, revealing how the gospel is being faithfully proclaimed in places of conflict.
For the next three months, our theme is “Hope for the Hidden,” as we’ll see that hope is within reach for the isolated.
We begin with TWR Women of Hope, and the second season of their audio drama, Hidden Treasures.
These dramas are designed to bring hope to trafficked and sexually exploited women. Joseph was trafficked, and it’s interesting to note that 57% of all those trafficked today are men and boys, according to United Nations data. But 78% of sex-trafficking victims are women and girls.
It is these women and girls that Hidden Treasures seeks to reach with the message that they are loved and valued by Jesus.
In May, the focus will move to the Roma people of Europe, a people group who have been marginalized for centuries with no country to call their own. We’ll learn about the tools our teams in Europe have been developing so that the Roma, too, can know that hope is within their reach through Jesus Christ.
Finally, we’ll turn to Cuba, isolated from the rest of the continent and crippled by prolonged blackouts. Yet isolation does not have the final word. In fact, we’ll hear from our partners at RTM* Cuba about an exciting movement to Christ on the island.
Joseph’s story would not end in isolation, as we know (Genesis 41). The last chapter was glorious, as it can be for trafficked women, for the Roma and for Cuba. Jesus breaks through to the hidden, because everywhere hope is within reach.
