Interns with Impact 2024: Beatrice, Graphic Design Intern

By Malise Terrell

[Estimated reading time: 4 minutes]

Beatrice fulfilled a lifelong dream this summer as a graphic design intern with TWR, illustrating her first children's book (stay tuned for the release) and using her skills to share Jesus with the world.

Introducing Beatrice, a newly minted children’s book illustrator thanks to her work as a graphic design intern with TWR this summer. Embracing the challenge of illustrating the TWR children’s book (to be released soon), Beatrice went above and beyond to make the most unique and beautiful illustrations complete with an engaging color palette.

After completing her internship, Beatrice returned to Liberty University for her senior year. Her degree will be in studio and digital arts with a graphic design focus. This summer she arrived at TWR with a passion for missions and design:

“I am attracted by the mission and purpose of TWR. I love the mission of using radio and digital media to make Christ known around the world. … My work illustrating the children’s storybook was the biggest project I’ve had,” she said.

“Ten weeks ago, Beatrice and I hardly knew each other and were trying to figure out how to work together. Fast forward two and a half months and now I hated to see her leave. In the time in between she completed all the illustrations to bring to life a new children’s storybook about TWR, which will be an awesome resource for our staff. We like to think that we have an impact on our interns. The truth is, Beatrice has impacted us and left her mark on TWR.”

 Q. How did you hear about TWR?

I heard about TWR through a career/job fair at my school, and I received a handout about TWR opportunities. I decided that I wanted to apply for an internship at TWR since I was drawn to using my gifts to make Jesus and the gospel known through this ministry.

 Q. What did you enjoy the most?

I most enjoyed continuing to grow in my character and learning new things about the Lord as I worked on my internship this summer. I really enjoyed the work that I did; I love getting to use the gifts God has given me for his glory.

Q. What was most challenging for you this summer?

Something challenging for me this summer has been thinking creatively each day. There are some days where I have worked so efficiently and there have been days where I have run into creative blocks. However, I am thankful for the experience and have been learning strategies on what to do when I run into creative blocks.

I have been the most excited about working on the TWR children’s book illustrations! I love illustrating different things for kids, so it is amazing that God has opened this opportunity for me to be an illustrator.

Q. What was your favorite thing about TWR while serving this summer?

My favorite thing about TWR is how everyone who is there is passionate about what they do and is intentional. It is so inspiring and encouraging to see people who are sacrificing their time and using the skills God has given them. I can tell from the people I have met at TWR so far that they are passionate about the gospel being spread.

Q. Was this your first ministry/missions experience?

I have had the opportunity to do ministry at my college. I have been a community group leader and am currently a resident shepherd with the opportunity to teach others about God’s Word, disciple people in my hall at my dorm, and pour into others spiritually.

Q. What was the biggest sacrifice you made to be here this summer?

A sacrifice I have made to be at TWR this summer is leaving my family and home for my entire summer break. Luckily, my family does not live too far away, so I am grateful that they were able to visit me.

Q. What was your favorite food or what food did you try out this summer?

My favorite food is anything with barbecue! It can be a barbecue sandwich or BBQ chicken... anything barbecue!

Q. What is your favorite hobby that you have now/ or that you developed this summer?

I have a lot of hobbies that I enjoy doing, but one of them would be writing. I love to journal A LOT. I continued to write and journal more this summer!

FUN FACT: Twix is my favorite candy bar!!
