Lauren joins us from Messiah University, where she is a rising senior majoring in English with a creative writing concentration and competes on the Falcons swim team. This summer, she serves on the Marketing and Communications (Marcom) team in Cary, North Carolina, as a writing and editing intern. Since her family lives not far from Cary, her internship also includes exposure to commuting.

Lauren swims on the swim team for her university and has been a regular at the pool since the age of five. When Lauren connected with TWR on Handshake (which she describes as “an Indeed for college-aged people”), she was thrilled to learn there “was a need for writing and editing in this Christian organization trying to spread the gospel all over the world!” Immediately, she realized, “Wow, two of my passions in one place!”

“I'm enjoying hearing and writing stories from people all over the world who have found Christ through TWR's outreach,” Lauren said. “It's amazing to hear how so many people from diverse backgrounds are moved and called by the same God.”

Q: What is the most challenging thing for you this summer?

It's challenging to get used to writing that isn't just for a grade. I've never had a writing-focused job, so it's a bit scary to put your writing out there for real-life use/application instead of just for a grade!

Q: What are you most excited to do during your internship? Work or personal?

I’m excited to spend a lot of time doing one of my favorite things – reading! Both for work (listener stories, Towers to Eternity, Making Waves, etc.) and for fun.

Q: At this point, what is your favorite thing about TWR?

Though different, each person brings something to the table to contribute to one mission in which everyone is united. I love how everyone who works with TWR has such a unique personality with distinctive skill sets, yet everyone is so welcoming and kind. That's so cool!

Q: Is this your first ministry/missions experience? If not, where have you served?

Aside from some very short service trips in middle/high school, this is my first missions experience.

Q: What was the biggest sacrifice you made to be here this summer?

I'm lucky to not have to give up much this summer to be here, because my parents live 40 minutes away … I am commuting. My sister, brother-in-law and their two little boys also live [nearby], so I'm blessed with a lot of family time this summer!

Lauren was honored with the Human Grammerly Award at her team's swim banquet this year.Q: What is your favorite hobby that you have not/or hope to develop this summer?

One of my newer hobbies is hiking. I love spending time in nature while being active, and I hope to do some more of that this summer! (Also, puzzles. Marcom is really turning me into a puzzle wiz.)

Fun Facts:
Lauren has spent significant time in the pool since age 5! In addition to taking the plunge for her college, she is giving back by coaching a summer swim team near her hometown. Her love of water began growing at her grandparents’ lake house in the summers. She loves all things water: kayaking, boating, wakeboarding, swimming and spending as much time as possible on the local lakes this summer. In line with her degree studies, Lauren was presented the Human Grammarly Award at her swim banquet this year!
