Joining God’s Work in the World: Kylie, Finance Intern
Illinois native Kylie Schmitt is a student at Liberty University majoring in finance and accounting. This summer, she is an intern with the Finance team at the TWR Americas headquarters in Cary, North Carolina.
Kylie learned about TWR through a virtual career fair at Liberty. She connected with TWR representatives on Handshake, an app that brings together students, employers and educational institutions by facilitating introductions. It led to a relationship with TWR that Kylie could build upon, culminating in her TWR finance internship.
Kylie is excited about the work and personal aspects of her internship. She is most looking forward to furthering her finance skills and having fun with other interns. She anticipates one challenge being “getting used to working 9-5 rather than being a student.”
She wants to gain new expertise and make meaningful connections during her time in Cary. She is off to a good start, Kylie says, as “everyone has been so very welcoming.”
TWR is the first ministry that Kylie has served with other than her local church or university. Though she is eager to contribute, learn and grow with TWR, she admits it will be tough to be away from her family for the summer. “I’ll miss watching movies and having dinner with my family,” she said. While living in North Carolina, she’ll greatly feel the absence of her dog, Poncho, a Beagle mix, who has been a part of their family for two years.
Kylie has a sweet tooth, a hand for crafts and an ear for music. Her favorite food is chocolate, which has her planning to try lots of chocolate, desserts and snacks this summer. Her favorite hobby is crocheting with which she enjoys creating a variety of small decorative items. Kylie’s musical talent enables her to play and teach the viola.
The Bible verse that she has chosen to guide her this summer is:
“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39).
