New Book, ‘Making Waves,’ Tells TWR’s Story
[Estimated reading time: 2 minutes]
A media ministry that started with the goal of reaching Spain for Christ and grew to touch all the world is the subject of a book being released this month.
Making Waves, with a foreword by Dr. Erwin Lutzer, is the story of how God has used TWR, also known as Trans World Radio, over its 70-year history.
“We rejoice that TWR reaches millions of people with the gospel – more than we ever hear about,” wrote Lutzer, the pastor emeritus of Moody Church and a longtime radio Bible teacher.
The book traces the story from how Dr. Paul Freed began sharing the gospel to listeners in Spain from a radio station in Tangier, Morocco, to today’s multimedia presence in more than 200 languages, in 190 countries and with a potential audience of 4 billion people.
“What we have tried to do through this book is to illustrate how God is big enough to take ordinary individuals from diverse backgrounds and to provide everything that is necessary to accomplish what he has called them to do,” wrote Lauren Libby, president and CEO of TWR.
The authors are journalists Richard Greene and John Lundy, each with close connections to TWR.
“When I served with TWR during the late 1990s and early 2000s, I was amazed then how God was using radio to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ, especially in areas where missionaries could not go,” said Greene, who began the project in 2022. “Today, two decades later, I stand in awe of how God is blessing this ministry and expanding its technological capabilities to reach still more with God’s love and the hope of the gospel.”
Lundy was in his first year as a writer with TWR when Greene invited him to participate in researching and writing the book.
“Being able to hear the stories firsthand of how God has used this ministry to transform so many lives in extraordinary ways was such a blessing to me as a newcomer to TWR,” Lundy said.
The softcover book is 257 pages, with illustrations. You can buy it online at twr.org/book.
