Spreading Hope Amid a Pandemic: Matthew, Data Management Intern
Doing God’s work typically conjures up images of going to faraway places to preach the gospel to individuals who have not heard it. But in reality, things can be much simpler, and not everything requires extensive travel. Matthew Prickett’s service with TWR evidences that we don’t always have to look too far to bring people to Jesus.
Hailing from Raleigh, North Carolina, Matthew is working close to home this summer, serving as a part-time data management intern at TWR’s international offices in Cary, North Carolina. He is a senior at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, double majoring in statistics and computer science with a minor in mathematics. Throughout his time at TWR, Matthew will be working on developing systems to collect and process data from audiences all over the world.
Q: How did you hear about TWR?
I was told about TWR by a family friend, Mr. Ben Lykins, who is also the director of information technology and systems at TWR.
Q: What brought you to intern with TWR this summer?
God called me to intern here because I needed experience, and they needed extra hands on their databases.
Q: What will you be working on over the summer?
I am working in the data management department on the audience response team. The projects that I will be working on involve audience response data collection and processing. I am developing a system to automatically gather information on our different social media accounts and get all the info uniform and accurate.
Q: How does your internship align with your passions and calling?
I love Jesus, but computers and numbers are what I am good at. This internship gives me the opportunity to use the gifts I was given to further the gospel and help others!
Q: What is the biggest challenge you’ve encountered in your internship, and how have you overcome it?
So far, I have encountered some trouble getting used to the software being used. However, with the help of my supervisor, I am becoming quite the natural at using it.
Q: What do you hope to achieve during your internship?
I hope to learn more about and become experienced in database work and management. Also, I hope to build systems to support TWR’s social media marketing and communications worldwide.
Q: What is one thing you have learned this summer?
That I don’t know how much I don’t know and that there is always more to learn.
Q: Tell us a little-known or fun fact about yourself!
I eat the whole apple, including the core and the seeds.
