West Africa Ministry Director
As Ministry Director, you will oversee the development, quality, and impact of TWR’s ministry in the West Africa region by managing partnerships, driving strategic planning, capacity building, and resource management, while embodying servant leadership and upholding TWR’s mission and values.
Please note: This position is a supported/sponsored missionary role (not a direct hire opportunity), so the approved candidate would need to develop a team of partners to provide financially for their full salary and benefits. The TWR Africa Support Center is seeking a Director to support and serve the West Africa region.
Key Responsibilities:
General:
- Consistently upholds the TWR and its global ministry in prayer individually and corporately.
- Uphold TWR’s vision “to reach the world for Christ through mass media so that lasting fruit is produced.”
- Create a ministry vision for the designated Ministry Area in line with TWR’s international strategic ministry framework in consultation with respective National Directors.
- Makes strategic short- and long-term ministry plans for the designated Ministry Area, submitting monthly reports on the overall ministry to the International Director.
- Carries out management responsibilities in a manner that models a Servant Leadership style, upholding TWR’s core values and statement of doctrinal position.
- Promotes the work of TWR Africa through consultative, ‘dotted line’ relationships with national partners also to develop relationships in the designated Ministry Area with the Church and other partners willing to join TWR Africa in ministry.
- Produces reports and other materials for TWR and other constituents as agreed by the Africa Ministry Leaders [AML] or requested by the International Director or other leaders within TWR.
Financial:
- Focuses TWR Africa resources in the area of needs as outlined by AML ensuring financial best practice in all locations.
- Maintains flow of information to and from programs/projects to enable financial resource mobilization, representation, and accountability.
- Make recommendations concerning project proposals in consultation with ASC for National Partners in the designated Ministry Area.
- Investigates and recommends new potential ministry partners in the designated Ministry Area.
Capacity Building:
- Contributes to the personal and professional development of National Partners through mentoring relationships and/or through provision of training (internal or external to TWR).
- Identifies and stimulates training and development, as appropriate, with partner ministries in the designated Ministry Area.
- Advances partnerships through development and engagement in projects in line with the prevailing Strategic Plan.
- Contributes to the understanding and practice of partnership with indigenous missions/international missions and Non-Governmental Organizations in the designated Ministry Area through regular visits, speaking, teaching and writing (when and where invited).
- Develops appropriate annual ministry plans with national partners in the designated Ministry Area.
- May be requested to represent TWR Africa on organizations doing similar work to TWR including but not limited to Africa by Radio/Media and Radio Africa Network.
- May be requested to represent the International Director in National Partner Board meetings as may be appropriate or necessary.
Competencies:
- Commitment to TWR’s vision and mission statement, strategic direction, core values, TWR’s statement of faith.
- Knowledge, skill, and mental acumen equivalent to a master’s degree with good understanding in missions, leadership, project management and cross-cultural communication.
- General knowledge of the history, structure, operations of TWR, as well as the changing media landscape.
- Proven experience in media or project management, with a general knowledge of the history, structure, and operations of TWR, and of partnering and developing of indigenous ministries to become self-sustainable
- Experience in cross-cultural ministry and leadership development.
- High level of interpersonal, social, communication skills.
- Ability to plan, organize and manage resources – financial as well as human resources – towards planned outcomes.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relations across a variety of cultures.
- Strong sense of calling and “modeling the message” to enable others to fulfill their calling and ministry.
- A willingness to work with teams and to practice the servant leadership style in the day-to-day work.
- Ability to speak compellingly in various settings to present the case for support for the Ministry.
- Ability to lead, motivate and encourage working teams.
Qualifications:
- Experience in the above mentioned fields for up to five years in place of a degree.
- Active church membership in protestant/evangelical church.
- Functional ability to perform work in English and (preferably) one or more other languages relevant to the region.
- Ability and willingness to travel extensively, sometimes at short notice or for extended periods of time. A strong sense of calling to ministry and servanthood.
- Bachelors’ degree or equivalent in the field of either: Missions, Theology, and/or Business/Project Management; or related experience in similar field.
- Sound knowledge and work experience in missions.
- MS Office knowledge.
