Five Ways You Can Pray for Farsi Speakers
[Estimated reading time: 2 minutes]
While disillusionment towards Islam is on the rise amongst Farsi speakers, many are stepping away from religion and towards personal relationship with God.
Farsi is the official language of Iran, a nation largely hostile to the gospel, where the persecution of Christians is all too common.
In the recent past, there’s been a rapid rise in secularism as many Farsi speakers grow disenchanted with religious rituals. People are not looking for religion but for a relationship with God, according to TWR’s Farsi ministry director.
1. Pray that media overcomes barriers to the gospel.
TWR shares Christ’s unchanging message in the Farsi language through media. Even when certain media channels are blocked in Iran, others are open. Listeners can hear the gospel and even engage in meaningful discussions about faith while protecting their anonymity. Pray that these innovative media channels continue to be avenues for evangelism and discipleship.
2. Pray for open hearts to God’s Word.
God’s Word changes lives,” TWR’s Farsi ministry director said. “For example, when I heard Luke 23:34, where Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do,’ I realized that Jesus wasn’t focused on his pain but on offering forgiveness to sinners.”
Pray that as listeners hear the truth of the Bible in their own language, lives are changed.
3. Pray for the safety of Christians in Iran.
In Iran, it’s punishable by law to evangelize Muslims. And Muslims who convert to Christianity face grave dangers. Yet despite these challenges, an increasing number of Farsi speakers are finding true freedom in Christ. Pray for God’s vigilant care and protection over the Christians in Iran.
4. Pray for the next generation.
TWR’s Farsi team is made up of dynamic young adults who create culturally relevant programs for the next generation. Pray that Farsi-speaking youth become more curious about God. Pray for a revival among the youth.
5. Pray for TWR Farsi team members.
An urgent prayer need is for some Farsi ministry team members and friends who are being compelled to return to their home country. Once back, they often face difficult challenges such as the loss of a legal identity. Pray that they can continue to serve in the safety of their current locations instead of being forced to return to their homeland.
