Four Ways You Can Pray for Tatar Speakers
Less than 1% of Tartars living in Russia are evangelical Christians, according to Joshua Project. Let’s pray that more find the true joy of the living God.
“As a Tatar, I was not supposed to know the real Jesus,” one person told us. Praise God for opening the doors and growing our relatively new media ministry in Tatarstan. This crucial effort needs our prayers.
1. Pray that media overcomes barriers to the gospel.
TWR is sharing Christ’s unchanging message in the Tatar language through a new initiative called Joy (Shatlyk). Short, 30- to 40-second programs are aired on local FM stations in two cities. At the end of each radio segment, listeners are invited to engage with the program content on social media.
2. Pray for Bible distribution efforts.
Volunteers from local churches in Tatarstan meet with program listeners and distribute New Testament Bibles. They teach one-on-one sessions called “Who is Isa (Jesus)?”
Pray for those who receive Bibles to be transformed by the Word of God.
3. Pray for partnerships.
As TWR’s local church partnership continues to grow in the region, Tatars will have more opportunities to join or even start new Christian communities. What’s more, through a TWR partnership with the International Mission Board, a Tatar New Testament distribution channel is now available.
4. Pray for TWR Tatar team members.
A dedicated Tatar couple, Alim* and Darina,* manages the social media platforms and all communication with listeners. “We take our business experience in marketing and apply it to our outreach,” said Darina. “We share God’s Word to get people interested in knowing God personally.” They are also involved in program content.
Pray for this couple’s efforts to share the gospel. Pray that more Christian Tatars will join them in broadening the gospel’s reach among the Tatars.
