TWR Burundi’s New Building Filled With Prayer
A joyous smile lights Rachel Muhorakeye’s face.
“Let me just show you [how] many people are praying there,” says Muhorakeye, director of TWR Burundi.
It’s a Thursday afternoon at TWR Burundi’s office in the city of Bujumbura, from which Muhorakeye is talking via video chat. Holding her laptop, she walks through and out of the four-year-old office building, revealing cars parked in every available space and a pile of shoes outside a newer building.
Then her camera peeks into a meeting room, filled with dozens of people sitting in chairs -- faces and bodies animated.
“Look how crowded they are,” Muhorakeye says. “There are so many people inside. They are just praying, praising the Lord.”
TWR Burundi sees its facilities not just as offices and studios, but also as a Christian community center. Now with an additional 9-by-11-meter building – about the size of a modest three-bedroom home – the ministry is able to offer even more.
By June 2023, when TWR Burundi hosted the TWR East Africa Partners Conference, 27 community groups were making use of the large room in the original 10-square-meter building, opened in December 2021.
That number has grown to more than 50, Muhorakeye said, keeping the facilities busy. It’s a testimony to what God is doing through TWR Burundi.
“I’m so overwhelmed and grateful to the Lord for what he has done,” she said. “It was like a dream. Look how people are praying in our premises. Look how the awareness of TWR is going that far,” she added, spreading out her arms. “Look what God is doing in people’s lives.”
Finishing touches remain for the building, which consists of two large rooms for prayer and meetings. It was built at a cost of US$120,000, Muhorakeye said, with the money raised from donors.
She asked for prayer toward meeting the remaining needs, in the following areas specifically:
- Air conditioning for the larger prayer room.
- Money to soundproof both rooms.
- A big generator for use during repeated electricity interruptions.
