The Vital Necessity of HIV/AIDS Programming

Is programming about HIV/AIDS really that important? This listener letter from Côte d'Ivoire shows that it is vital:

"I live in the northern part of Côte d'Ivoire. This area has been under the rebels' control since the beginning of the civil war in our country. Since September 2002, when the war started, your radio programmes have been my personal and only companion. Once, while I was listening to an FM station in my city, I discovered your weekly HIV/AIDS programme on that station. I would like you to know that I love your programme very much and I am very interested in learning more through it.

"Please tell me if an infected person can get married with an uninfected one without being infected? Can someone who is infected and who follows up carefully with his medication as well as the doctor's prescriptions be healed from HIV/AIDS? Thank you for your listening to me. Greetings to all the TWR staff."

 This listener has important, life-or-death questions which need to be answered. That is one of the goals of the programme Save a Generation — to dispel myths and misunderstandings about HIV/AIDS so that people will change their behaviour, and the spread of HIV/AIDS may be halted.
